Nearly 500 Race For Autism In New Canaan

NEW CANAAN, Conn. -- Nearly 500 runners participated in Friday's All Out For Autism 5k run in New Canaan.

The race was hosted by New Balance New Canaan and also included a fun run for kids.

Alan Wells of Orlando, Fla. was the overall winner in 17:01. Sharon Vos of Greenwich won the women's race in 20:54. She was 21st overall.

Money  raised will help build a special needs playground at the New Canaan YMCA.

Mrs. Connecticut Izabela O'Brien was the special guest. She has a foundation the Fearless Angel Project, which provides families with a place to turn when they are in need of support and autism resources. One of O'Brien's children has autism.

Race sponsors were New Balance, The Kend Family, Bankwell Bank, Kam Kamerschen, Cioffi Family, Morgenthal Frederics, Weed And Dureya, Rosie Restaurant, Joe's Pizza, C & H Auto, Healthfare, Stewart's Market, Karl Chevrolet, Chicken Joe's and Stamford Balance -- Dr Christina Poulos. The School of Rock also played for runners and guests.
