N.Y. Times Focuses On Display Of Civil Rights Icons By New Canaan Artist

GREENWICH, Conn. -- An art exhibit featuring icons of the civil rights movement at Round Hill Community Church in Greenwich was recently featured in a story in the New York Times.

The project features the work of New Canaan native Pamela Chatteron-Purday, and includes a a series of mixed-media icons commemorating the civil rights movement.

The icons include wood frames built around portraits of some of the most famous names of the civil rights movement, including the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. and Rosa Parks, as well as Andrew Goodman and Michael Schwerner, New York students who were killed in Mississippi in 1964 along with James Chaney, a native of Meridian, Miss.

The exhibit is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and weekends from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
