Wilton's Dog Daze Cafe Competes In DVlicious 'Best In County' Contest

WILTON, Conn. -- The classic hot dog, in all its bronzed, charred perfection, holds a special place in the hearts – and stomachs -- of most Americans, especially come summer. July, in fact, is National Hot Dog Month, thanks to the designation by the National Hot Dog and Sausage Council.

So where’s the best place to slather on the toppings and indulge in the perfect weiner? Daily Voice readers picked six nominees for our DVlicious “Best in Fairfield County,” contest, each of which is being profiled this week.

Read below for what makes each nominee a “top dog,” then let your fingers do the clicking. Keep in mind you can vote multiple times, albeit once per day. Voting ends 4 p.m. Thursday, July 28.

Frank Talk: Dog Daze Cafe, now in the middle of its fourth season, uses top quality all beef hot dogs and cooks them on the grill. According to Owners Jesse and Brittany Cipollone, the grill gives the dogs so much flavor before you even add your toppings! Dog Daze also uses a variety of fresh ingredients from Barthel's Farm Market in Ellenville, N.Y. 

Jesse has been in the restaurant/food service industry for well over 15 years and prides himself on his passion and dedication. "We do not 'rush' our food, " he said. "We cook everything to order. 

Top This: The menu has seven "Specialty Dogs" that consist of some traditional and not-so traditional combinations. The "Wilton Dog," for example, has chili, cheese, bacon, and onions while the "Rodeo Dog" sports cole slaw, bacon, and BBQ sauce. 

Aside from the specialty dogs, there are more than 12 different toppings and eight different sauces to mix and match to your liking. "We strive to cater to the traditionalist looking for a dog with mustard and sauerkraut, all the way to the more adventurous 'foodie' who can build their own tasty combinations such as homemade pickled okra or fresh sliced tomato from our family farm," said Jesse.

There are also three homemade relishes made at Barthel's.
