The screening will be followed by an open discussion with former Sandy Hook teacher Abbey Clements moderated by CNN anchor Alisyn Camerota.

In “Newtown” the filmmakers use unique access and never-before-heard testimonies to tell a story of the aftermath of the deadliest mass shooting of schoolchildren in American history on Dec. 14, 2012.

“Newtown” documents a traumatized community fractured by grief and driven toward a sense of purpose. It is an intimate story of community resilience.

“The tragedy at Sandy Hook shook the country to its core and continues to have impact in countless ways, particularly here in southwestern Connecticut,” said Westport Library Executive Director Bill Harmer. “We believe it is important to show this documentary and provide an open forum for discussion about the very tough issues and ideas it raises."

"We are honored to have Abbey with us to share her story and we are thrilled to have Alisyn working with us to help moderate this important community conversation," continued Harmer.

Clements was a second grade teacher at Sandy Hook School for 11 years. She and her students survived the shooting, which took the lives of 20 first graders and six educators.

Since the shooting, Clements has become a gun violence prevention activist. She is both a Survivor Fellow with Everytown for Gun Safety and a Communications Lead for the Connecticut chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America.

Clements taught at Sandy Hook School for two-and-a-half years after the tragedy, and is currently teaching fourth grade at another Newtown elementary school.

Camerota is a CNN anchor and co-host on CNN's morning show "New Day" with Chris Cuomo. At CNN, Camerota has covered breaking news stories on the ground both internationally and domestically, including the Paris and Brussels terror attacks, the tragic South Carolina church shooting, and the Pulse nightclub shooting in Orlando, Fla.

The "Newtown" showing and discussion will begin at 2 p.m. at the Westport Women's Club, 44 Imperial Ave., Westport. There is no charge but registration on the library's website here is requested as space is limited.
