The public is invited to attend the event, which will be held at noon. Darien's wreath laying ceremony is conducted simultaneously with the wreath ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia on Dec. 16. According to local tallies, there are 2,184 veterans buried at Spring Grove, and many volunteers are needed to help with the wreath placement this year.

Darien's Monuments and Ceremonies Commission partnered this year with many civic groups to collect wreath sponsorships, including the Darien VFW Post 6933, the Masonic Club of Darien, the Darien High School Support Our Soldiers, and Good Wife's River Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Many Darien businesses and residents have also donated, and this year more than 1,200 wreath sponsorships have been collected for Spring Grove.

Those who are interested in helping to lay wreaths are asked to come to Spring Grove Cemetery at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 16 to prepare for the noon ceremony. There will be seasonal music by the Coastal Chordsmen, a men's a cappella chorus who will also sing the National Anthem.

Wreaths Across America is a nonprofit organization founded to continue and expand the annual wreath-laying ceremony at Arlington National Ceremony begun by Maine businessman Morril Worcester in 1992. Each year the organization coordinates wreath-laying ceremonies at Arlington, as well as hundreds of veterans cemeteries and other locations across all 50 states.
