FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. Two months after a Christmas Day fire in Stamford resulted in the deaths of three sisters and their grandparents, a Fairfield County moms group and fire stations across Fairfield County are holding simultaneous fire safety awareness events in an effort to prevent future tragedies.
CT-Moms, a local group of more than 300 mothers in Fairfield County, has organized A Show of Support. The fire awareness and fundraising event is set for 10 a.m. Saturday, which marks the two-month anniversary of the horrific Stamford fire on Christmas morning.
"The members of CT-Moms felt this was a meaningful way for area families to show how deeply we have been moved by recent fire-related tragedies, said Medha Thomas, founder of CT-Moms Online.
By showing up at one of the participating fire stations and refreshing our knowledge of fire safety and prevention strategies, we will allow our actions to speak in a way that words never could when it comes to reverence for those who have lost life, and gratitude for those who save lives every day," Thomas said.
Lily Badger, 10, and twins Sarah and Grace, 7, died in the blaze with their grandparents, Pauline and Lomer Johnson. Madonna Badger, the girls mother and owner of the Shippan Point home demolished after the deadly blaze, and her friend, Michael Borcina, survived the fire.
The one-hour events are open to the public and will take place simultaneously at participating fire stations, Thomas said. The events are designed for local residents to receive improved fire safety education, she said, as well as to provide solidarity with families such as the Badgers who have suffered fire-related tragedies. The events will also show support for local fire stations, Thomas said.
Some stations will have giveaways, offer snacks and host fire-themed craft projects for children. A suggested donation of $20 per family will be divided among local participating firehouses as well as The Other 364 Foundation in honor of the Badger family.
As part of the event, Elahi Children Yoga in Westport will host a session specifically for families with children or adults with special needs.
"When it comes to fire safety in the home, families with special needs face a unique set of physical and emotional challenges, said Elahi founder Kami Evans. In cooperation with volunteers from the Westport Fire Station, we will offer customized demonstrations, a question-and-answer session, and relaxation strategies to help make successfully navigating stressful situations easier for everyone in the family."

Westport, special needs-focused session, Christ & Holy Trinity Church, 75 Church Lane
Norwalk, Broad River Fire Station, 90 New Canaan Ave. Park at 108 New Canaan Ave. off Harris Street and cross the ballfields.
Trumbull, Trumbull Center Fire Department, 860 White Plains Road
