NORWALK, Conn. More than 400 city of Norwalk employees earn six-figure incomes, according to a document obtained from Norwalk's finance department.
That document is attached below. It contains the salaries and wages earned by 3,762 employees in the city in 2011.
Here are a few interesting facts:
Susan Gunn Bromley made $73,705 as curator of the Norwalk Museum, a position that Mayor Richard Moccia has proposed cutting from the 2012-13 budget.
Moccia made $107,745, and was No. 242 on the list. Andy Garfunkel was No. 500, making $97,964.31 as town clerk through Nov. 21.
Rick McQuaid, current town clerk, was paid $22,467 as an instructional aide at Naramake Elementary School, $7,920 for being a playground supervisor for the Department of Recreation and Parks, and $8,009 as town clerk, a position he was sworn into on Nov. 22.
Norwalk Police Officer Russell Oulette was the city's top wage earner at $207,333, much of which was earned on extra-duty assignments not paid for by taxpayers.
School Superintendent Susan Marks, who works long hours, was the second highest wage earner at $200,000. Marks has not had a raise since beginning the job July 1, 2010. The average salary for superintendents nationwide for the 2010-11 school year was $161,992, according to districtadministration.com.
Many of the top wage earners are police officers who, like Oulette, take extra duty assignments. Their overtime pay will not be calculated into their pensions, which the city's finance director, Thomas Hamilton, said is based on base pay plus education stipend, a minor amount.
He said, "There is obviously overtime they put in working as part of their regular city jobs, then they also get extra pay for working the extra duty jobs and neither one of those are factored in to their pension calculation."
