NCC Student Featured In Short Story Anthology Showcasing Deaf Writers

NORWALK, Conn. – Jacob Waring, a student at Norwalk Community College, is one of the featured short story contributors to the anthology "Tripping the Tale Fantastic: Weird Fiction by Deaf and Hard of Hearing Writers."

The anthology will be published on Sunday, Oct. 15.

The publication, promoted as the first weird fiction (e.g. science fiction, horror, supernatural fantasy) featuring only deaf and hard of hearing writers, includes 20 stories ranging from haunted Civil War battlefields to lab-grown dinosaurs, bio-engineered fleas and scary forest creatures.

Waring has written a story for the anthology called, “The Tale of Two Prodigies,” about two prodigious brothers who attempt to outdo each other with their scientific achievements.

Waring is deaf and attended Gallaudet University for the hearing-impaired before enrolling at NCC. He is an aspiring writer and has served as Editor in Chief of “The Voice,” NCC’s student newspaper. Unable to hear college lectures, he succeeds in his classes by lip-reading and with occasional assistance by sign language interpreters.

The anthology is edited by Christopher Jon Heuer and published by Handytype Press, which showcases literature and art created by signers, the deaf and hearing alike or about the deaf or signing experience. More information is available at http://handtype.com/pr/tripping/index.html.
