New Canaan Easter Egg Hunt Keeps on Truckin'

The grass at Waveny Park will be dotted with color Saturday morning. It will also be filled with laughter and scrambling children as the 38th annual New Canaan Easter Egg Hunt gets underway. The Young Women’s League of New Canaan will host the festivities, as they have every year since 1973.

“These are the events that make New Canaan a special place to live,” said Nicole Cribbins, a member of the YWL and co-chairwoman of the hunt, which starts at 10 a.m. in the field behind Waveny House. “It’s one of the special times that families can enjoy. It makes Easter a very special time of year. Everyone looks forward to it.”

The festivities will include live music, bounce house, sack races and, of course, the annual hunt for brightly colored eggs containing candy or gift certificates. In previous years, the eggs were hard-boiled. Cribbins says she’s looking forward to a fun morning, though not as much as her children are. Her son Harrison, 5, and daughter Kennedy, 2, will participate as chicks riding into Waveny Park along with the Easter Bunny aboard New Canaan’s antique fire truck “Old Faithful.” Then it’s off to the field behind Waveny House to begin the egg hunt. Cribbins is recovering from an injury and won’t be able to follow the hunt, but her kids are happy knowing their mom helped to put it together.

“Their dad is going to be with them. They will run off and be happy and enjoy the treats they’ll be able to eat,” she said, referring to the baked goods prepared by YWL members for the big day.

All proceeds go to the Young Women’s League’s Giving Fund.
