NEW CANAAN, Conn. Vivian Reeves could get used to a day like Thursday.
The 8-year-old New Canaan girl enjoyed an afternoon of being creative with glue and stickers while enjoying scones, tea and cookies with some of her good friends. I like mint tea and lemon tea without the real lemon in it, said Vivian, sipping as she talked about how excited she is for the winter break from school next week.
Vivian and about 20 other girls were at the Parlor Room of the New Canaan Historical Society on Thursday for the Valentines Day After School Workshop. The girls learned a little about the history of Valentines Day and made some heart-shaped crafts for their loved ones, all while having themselves something of an elegant day.
Historical Society Executive Director Janet Lindstrom said the program, held for about 10 years, is always a popular event, serving as a prelude to the adult Valentines Tea next Tuesday. They really enjoy it. They get to feel a little grown up in a way, Lindstrom said. Kids like to feel a little special on special days.
Cookies, scones and tea sandwiches made Carolina Dawson, 7, feel good. Im feeling kind of active, said Carolina, who attends East School with Vivian.
Emma Grau, 8, a student at South School, said she enjoyed being creative and using the colors at the crafts table. She opted for more blue and green than pink in her design, which may make a nice Valentines Day gift for her grandmother. And the scones were yummy, she said.
