New Canaan Library Goes Blue for BBQ Fundraiser

NEW CANAAN, Conn. – The New Canaan Library is going a bit Southern and soulful Friday.

Barbeque food and blues music will be the order of the day as the library hosts its first Books, Blues and BBQ fundraiser.

Library Executive Director Alice Knapp said a committee of women came up with the idea of “something fun and casual” for “a different kind of fundraiser” to help pay for renovations to the library’s parking lot. It helped that some of the organizing committee members hail from south of the Mason-Dixon Line, as does Library Advanced Communications Director Stephanie Schechter.

Uncle Willie’s BBQ of Seymour and West Haven will bring a barbeque smoker to the library to serve up ribs, pulled pork sandwiches and other barbequed delicacies.

“If people smell something delicious or see some smoke coming out the library, we are not on fire,” Schechter said. “We will be smoking the meat on-site.”

The band Tangled Vine, which plays rock and roll, soul and rhythm and blues music, will join the festivities.

“We’re really excited about it. Blue jeans and cowboy boots will be encouraged,” said Knapp, adding that more than 200 tickets have been sold for the event so far.

There will be no parking in the library’s lots all day Friday and Saturday morning because both lots will be used for the event. Individual tickets are $125 in advance, $150 at the door. For more information, contact Schechter at (203) 594-5025 or sschechter@newcanaanlibrary.org
