Hosted by organic land-care professional Christine Segalas, the series will begin with two dates in late February focusing on small-space gardening and two more dates in early April focusing on organic gardening.

“Small Space Gardening: Container Solutions” will be held on Tuesday  at 7 p.m. This class will highlight the best varieties of seeds/plants and the right containers for successful small-space gardening. Topics covered will include soil and aeroponic options available to grow favorite vegetables, herbs and fruits right from small spaces or to supplement a larger garden.

“Small Space Gardening: Building a Polyculture” will be held on Saturday, Feb. 28, at 1 p.m. Forget about the inefficient and wasteful old methods of gardening. Segalas will discuss how to plant a garden in a small space that will yield a multitude of harvests. Some know it as square-foot or grid gardening, intensive planting or intercropping. The “how” and “why” of this organic gardening method will be discussed.

“Growing Organic – Soil Importance and Composting” will be held Saturday, April 11, at 1 p.m. This class will discuss soil structure and composition, what is best for a vegetable garden and how to compost using simple solutions at home.

“Growing Organic – Planning Your Garden” will be held on Tuesday, April 14, at 7 p.m. This class will discuss organic methods such as crop rotation and companion planting when creating a garden.

Christine Segalas is an accredited organic land care professional as certified by the Connecticut Northeast Organic Farming Association.
