Five awards will be presented to owners of well-preserved properties, with winners ranging from an 18th-century saltbox to a 1954 tech-built house.
A sixth award will be presented to a New Canaan resident whose volunteer work has significantly contributed to preserving the town’s heritage.
To be eligible for an award, the property is viewed mainly from the street, as well-preserved buildings are considered a “gift” to the community, appreciated by all who value New Canaan’s heritage. There are three categories of winners: the Committee’s Award for Preserving a Sense of Place, the Trustees’ Award for Rehabilitation and the President’s Award for Preservation.
Rachel Carley, an author, architectural consultant and historian, will also speak briefly about the research she had conducted through a grant from the Connecticut State Historic Preservation office. She has been studying the properties surrounding the downtown area and analyzing the development and subdivisions of the town from its earliest days through its suburbanization in the 1920s.
The reception will begin at 4 p.m. at the Country Club of New Canaan, 95 Country Club Road.
