The inspections on June 17 were performed in an effort to determine compliance with state laws concerning the prohibition of the sale of cigarettes and/or tobacco products to children younger than 18.
An underage youth employed by the Tobacco Prevention and Enforcement Program entered the establishments and attempted to purchase tobacco products, according to a press release.
A total of nine unannounced compliance inspections were conducted. All nine establishments were in compliance and did not sell tobacco to the undercover youth, according to a press release.
These are the nine New Canaan establishments that were found to be in compliance:
- Food Emporium, 280 Elm St.
- Best Cellars, 282 Elm St.
- Mobil Station, 16 South Ave.
- Stewarts Spirits, 227 Elm St.
- Gulf Station, 36 South Ave.
- Walgreens, 36 Pine St.
- Vegetable Barn, 22 Cross St.
- MacKenzie’s, 7 South Ave.
- Mobil Station, Merritt Parkway (south)
