As part of winning the award, Jenkins had to choose a community organization to receive a grant, and she chose to give it to the Carver Foundation in Norwalk, a release from the Young Women’s League said. The Carver Foundation has programs for children to help them with education, recreation, and social needs, and during her time there Jenkins primarily worked with third grade students.

“The kids loved having someone come in to spend time with them,” she said in the release, “I really enjoyed spending time with them too.”

In addition to the Carver Foundation she also worked with Volunteer Square, a website that matches volunteers to organizations, by recruiting friends to join. She will be passing down her responsibilities with the website to her brother, Ned, as she plans to attend Fairleigh Dickinson University in the fall and hopes to volunteer there.

"We are very proud to recognize such an outstanding young woman” Nicole Cribbins, president of the organization said.

“Today’s students are incredibly busy with studies, sports, and other activities, so finding a student who is willing to carve out time in their already active schedules to volunteer is important to the The League.  Finding fulfillment in the service of others is one of the cornerstones of our membership.  At such a remarkably young age, Abby Jenkins is already demonstrating her dedication to the community.  We thank her for that and wish her the best of luck in all of her future endeavors, hoping she continues in her service to others. Perhaps one day as a member of The League."
