Henchar is competing against 10 other men and women in Connecticut for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's 2014 Man & Woman of the Year.
All 11 men and women are trying to raise the most money for blood cancer research and patient support services.
"As part of her campaign, Cheryl is working with four Ten Thousand Villages stores in New Canaan, New Haven, South Windsor and West Hartford to coordinate a 'give-back day' on Saturday, April 12, during which 10 percent of the stores’ sales will go toward Cheryl’s fund-raising campaign," representatives said. "Ten Thousand Villages is a fair-trade retailer of artisan-crafted home decor, personal accessories and gift items from across the globe."
The campaign will benefit the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, whose mission is to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families, according to a release. Connecticut State Treasurer Denise Nappier is serving as the Honorary Chair of the Connecticut Man & Woman of the Year campaign. Treasurer Nappier lost her sister to leukemia in 2002 and is committed to supporting the cause and helping local families who are impacted by blood cancer.
Henchar, owner of Cheryl’s Creative Services, is participating in the campaign in honor of a family member who is a leukemia survivor, according to a release.
“I’m very humbled to be a part of this campaign,” Henchar said. “I’m participating in this fund-raising opportunity to help improve the quality of life of individuals and families who are affected by blood cancer.”
