The Girl Scouts hold the extra sales during election season as a fundraiser.

"It’s a great way for cookie lovers to stock up for the holidays while they cast their votes," said a release. "The Cookie Program is a hands-on leadership and financial literacy program through which girls learn five skills: goal setting, decision making, money management, people skills, and business ethics."

The cookie program is a part of the Girl Scout Leadership Experience, "which helps girls discover new things about themselves and others, connect with new friends and learn about other cultures and places, and to take action by making their community or the world a better place," according to the release.
