NEW CANAAN, Conn. Jill Aordkian likes being involved. If theres a committee within the Young Womens League of New Canaan thats organizing or planning an event, chances are Aordkian is in the mix.
Ive always been on a committee, said Aordkian. Its not a chore for me. Its something I enjoy.
Aordkian has volunteered with the Young Womens League for about two years. After moving to New Canaan from Southbury five years ago, Aordkian joined with league after attending its events.
I saw these lovely town events like the Easter Egg Roll and the Holiday Market, and I thought these are such nice events, she said. So I saw this organization, and it struck my interest.
The league gives Aordkian a chance to be more connected with the community as well as to make friends when she isnt so tied up with her job in the financial industry. I also wanted a work-life balance. I wanted to do volunteer work, she said. Its a way to put my time to good use.
Last year, Aordkian was co-chairwoman for the league's Holiday Market held in Waveny House, its biggest fundraiser. Aordkian was happy knowing the group met its goal of $30,000, allowing the league to sponsor grants for charities in New Canaan and Fairfield County.
League President Amy Burger saluted Aordkian for her work on the Holiday Market. There is nothing better for a president than knowing you have surrounded yourself with competent, fun women, who get the job done right, Burger said. Jill is an outstanding member of our League, and I look forward to continued success working with her and all the dedicated women in the Young Women's League.
Aordkians next task is serving on the committee that is planning Couture For A Cause, a fashion show to be held in May in Stamford.
