NEW CANAAN, Conn. -- Residents at Waveny's, The Inn wore country-and-western-style clothing for a day of midway games and folk music recently at the Country Fair and Harvest Bounty Dinner.

The event at the senior living retirement community in downtown New Canaan featured a pie-tasting contest and bountiful meal. The entertainment, by Bruce Taylor on banjo and guitar, was a highlight, officials said.

The pie contest had nine entries from family members, volunteers and staff, with the champion title awarded as a tie between Ruth Johnson and Frank Haines.

One resident, Karen Seelert, brought chickens, including a white fluffball breed called a “silkie.”
