Lydee Hummel, who co-chairs the library’s campaign, said the grant will be used to support needed upgrades. The library has served as a community gathering place and served millions of visitors since 1877.

“Our mission has simply outgrown our physical structure,” Hummel said. “We are working carefully on a plan for a newly envisioned space, which will incorporate environmentally sensitive operational efficiencies, larger, more flexible spaces for our many programs and include the latest technologies for both patrons and staff all while maintaining the traditional charm and warm, friendly atmosphere expected by residents.”

Under the Community Connections program, Wells Fargo team members are able to nominate a nonprofit organization that has had a positive impact in their local community. They may include organizations serving underprivileged youth, community development or other public interests.

“Our local branches see which nonprofits are out in the community making a difference every day,” said Wells Fargo District Manager Miguel Vargas. “We use this as an opportunity to celebrate and say thank you to the New Canaan Public Library for all of the value they have provided to our community over the past year."
