The magazine's ratings have a different look this year due to a revamped ranking system. Instead of breaking up towns by population, the publication instead chose to split them up by median home sale price.

Weston, Easton and Redding were placed in the 37-town category that boasts median home sale prices of more than $300,000.

In addition to median home sale price, Connecticut Magazine weighed crime rates, graduation rates, the equalized mill rate, PIC rating, the number of restaurants that made the publications "Best Restaurants" list and voter turnout when determining the ranking.

Weston's high ranking came from strong showings in the education and crime rating categories, where the town placed first and second, respectively. The town lagged a bit in the culture and leisure and community engagement categories, ranking 18th and 19th, respectively.

Easton's No. 12 placement came from Top 10 rankings in crime and educational categories--eighth and ninth, respectively--but also failed to score high marks in the community engagement and culture and leisure categories.

Redding had a strong showing in education, placing ninth in the category, but failed to crack the Top 10 in any of the others.

Overall, Fairfield County dominated the top of list, with Ridgefield, Darien, New Canaan, Wilton and Greenwich holding the top five spots.

Westport finished just behind Weston at No. 7 and Fairfield came in at No.17.

Stamford was ranked the top city in the state, followed by Norwalk at No. 2 and Danbury at No. 3.
