Weston Little League Mourns Death Of Boy In Wilton Bike Accident

WESTON, Conn. -- The Weston Little League is mourning loss of one of its players in a bicycle accident on Monday in Wilton. 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday morning at St. Francis of Assisi in Weston for AJ Cina.

Joseph "AJ" Cina, 12, had just finished his last season in Weston Little League as a member of the District 11/12 summer team, the league said on its Facebook page.

"AJ was a tremendous athlete, a great kid and a true friend. AJ was a kid who exemplified excellence and sportsmanship," the league said in a post on its Facebook page. "AJ’s father Joe devoted many years of service to Weston Little League as a coach and member of our Board of Directors. AJ and Joe have been a fixture on our fields since AJ was in kindergarten. AJ is dearly missed by us all."

He was a student at Weston Middle School.

AJ is survived by his parents, Joe and Holly Cina, and sister, Kelsey.

Calling hours will be held at Harding Funeral Home in Westport from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 1, and from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 2. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for AJ on Saturday, Aug. 3, at 11 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Weston.

In lieu of flowers, the Cina family has requested that donations be made to the Weston Little League, PO Box 1277, Weston, CT 06883. 

Weston Youth Services and the school district are providing grief counseling services for students and adults. Counseling for students will take place at the Weston High School cafeteria on the following days and times:

Wednesday, July 31 (today) at 1 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 1 at 9:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. Friday, Aug. 2 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

A counseling session for adults will be held Wednesday night at 7 in the high school auditorium.
