'Your Money' Columnist Ron Lieber Speaks At New Canaan Country School

NEW CANAAN, Conn. -- Ron Lieber, “Your Money” columnist for The New York Times and author of the recently published “The Opposite of Spoiled,” will speak at New Canaan Country School from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Friday, March 6, followed by a book signing.

Books will be available for sale from Elm Street Books. The event is hosted by the school’s Parents’ Association as part of a monthly speaker series.

The lecture topic is “Helping Your Children Think About – and Manage – Money Responsibly.” Lieber will discuss how “difficult” money questions should be out in the open and used as a teaching tool with children to raise financially responsible young adults.

Lieber has been the “Your Money” columnist for The New York Times since 2008. His columns about student loans won the 2011 Loeb Award, business journalism’s highest honor, in the personal finance category. Lieber previously wrote the “Green Thumb” column for The Wall Street Journal’s Money & Investing section and was part of the startup team at the paper’s Personal Journal section in 2002. He also has been on staff at Fortune and Fast Company magazines. 

His first book, “Taking Time Off: Inspiring Stories of Students Who Enjoyed Successful Breaks from College and How You Can Plan Your Own,” co-authored with Colin Hall, was a New York Times bestseller in 1996. He also wrote “Upstart Start-Ups,” a book for young entrepreneurs and was the co-author of a guidebook to the best entry-level jobs in the United States.

Lieber lives in Park Slope, Brooklyn, with his wife Jodi Kantor, a fellow New York Times reporter and author of the 2012 New York Times bestseller “The Obamas,” and their 9-year-old daughter.
