At 6:15 p.m., watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Long Island Sound Command Center were notified that a 126-foot schooner, the Alabama, with 17 passengers and five crew aboard, had run aground near the mouth of the Mystic River in Connecticut.

They launched a boatcrew from Coast Guard Station New London.

They arrived on scene and safely transferred the 17 passengers from the Alabama to the Noank shipyard in Groton, the Coast Guard said.

Marine investigators are scheduled to conduct a probe to ensure the integrity of the vessel before it operates again.

No injuries or pollution were reported, the Coast Guard said. Plans were being developed to refloat the schooner.
