New Canaan Police are asking for the public's help in identifying the owner of what they described as a "vicious" off-leash dog that attacked and severely wounded a small dog last week.

The attack took place in the back of South School, near Crystal Street, at about 8:50 p.m. on Wednesday, July 11, when a shepherd-type dog who was unleashed at the time, attacked an on-leash mini-golden doodle, causing serious damage, said Officer Allyson Halm, head of the New Canaan Police Department’s Animal Control Unit.

Halm said the man and woman with the attacker dog declined to provide any information to the hurt dog's owner and told the man "he should go take his dog for help," and left the area.

Surveillance video in the area does not show the owner's car.

Halm said she has received a couple of tips, but that none have panned out.

Anyone who knows or recognizes the attacking dog or the owner is asked to contact Animal Control at 203-594-3510.
