The waterfront area had been closed for the past week due to poor water quality.

But the beach areas at four other state parks have been closed for the weekend due to the presence of certain indicator bacteria:

  • Rocky Neck State Park in Niantic (water will be resampled on July 17),
  • Mashamoquet Brook State Park in Pomfret, (water will be resampled on July 17)
  • Gay City State Park in Hebron, (water will be resampled on July 20)
  • Pachaug State Forest in Voluntown, (water will be resampled on July 20)

Only the water and beach areas are closed. The parks are all open for other activities.

Water samples are collected weekly by DEEP staff at state park waterfront areas and analyzed at the Department of Public Health Lab for the presence of certain indicator bacteria.
