Bridgeport Mayor Bill Finch and Police Chief Joseph Gaudett Jr. will join the clergy in holding prayer vigils for the people injured in the Trumbull Gardens housing complex shooting. Six men were shot -- one died of his injuries. And three women were shot, including one woman who was in her apartment bathtub.

“First and foremost, I want to express my deepest condolences to the families of the people who were injured early this morning and especially to the family of the young man who lost his life,” said Finch.

“This is a community and a city that cares deeply about one another. I have seen that compassion over and over, here in Trumbull Gardens and in every neighborhood in the city. And I know that this community will pull together and come out stronger in the end.”

The rallies will be held at:

  • St. Vincent’s Medical Center at 6 p.m. in front at 2800 Main St.; and
  • Bridgeport Hospital, 267 Grant St., at 7 p.m. in the courtyard.

“These injured men and women are in our thoughts and prayers,” said Finch. “We are a caring community and we will stand together in prayer, even as police continue to investigate this cowardly crime. We want these victims and their loved ones to know that we are standing with them and hoping for fast and full recoveries.”

The shooting happened at about 1 a.m. in the 400 block of Trumbull Avenue. One person was shot to death. Eight others are being treated at Bridgeport Hospital and Saint Vincent’s Medical Center.

“Our heartfelt thoughts go out to the families and victims and we wish them the best. This is a community and a city that cares deeply about one another,” Finch added. “We will make it through this and emerge stronger.”
