Everett Goethe, 32, of Bridgeport was charged with second-degree unlawful restraint, second-degree assault, disorderly conduct, interfering with an officer, criminal trespass and violation of conditions of release. He was held on a $25,000 bond and went to court Wednesday morning.

Police were called to a Commerce Street residence at around 5:45 p.m. Tuesday on a report of an altercation inside an apartment. They spoke with the complainant, who said that Goethe had gotten in an argument with her over a Facebook post. He demanded to see her phone, and when she refused he grabbed it from her, punched her in the face and hit her with a belt, according to police reports. She said that she tried to scream, but he covered her mouth. Eventually she was able to get free and he ran.

After speaking with her, officers realized they had passed Goethe on their way into the building and radioed out his description. He was seen running on Main Street and into the Patriotic American Club, police said. They arrived at the club and looked in the front window and saw Goethe, looking like he was getting ready to run away, according to police reports. He was grabbed and taken into custody.
