Actress Catherine Zeta-Jones received treatment for bipolar II disorder at Silver Hill Hospital , according to a report in the London newspaper The Mirror.
The paper said a representative for the actress confirmed that she checked into Silver Hill for a five-day course of treatment. The report says the treatment comes after having to deal with difficulties in the past year. Her husband, actor Michael Douglas, suffered from throat cancer and assisting him caused her a great deal of stress, the paper said. You can read the original story here .
Those who suffer from the medical illness, which had previously been named manic-depressive disorder, grapple with extreme shifts in mood, energy and functioning. They can alternate between states of mania and depression.
Zeta-Jones and Douglas were married in 2000.
