In order to crack Connecticut's wealthiest 1 percent, a resident would have to clear $678,000 annually, the most in the nation, Vox reported.

In addition, Connecticut also has the largest income disparity, with the top 1 percent earning 51 times the average salary of a run-of-the-mill 99 percenter.

The easiest state to crack the cultural elite? Arkansas, where $228,000 per year grants admission into the top 1 percent.

Here's how much you would have to earn to be in the top 1 percent in Connecticut's neighboring states:

  • New Jersey: $539,000
  • Massachusetts: $532,000
  • New York: $506,000
