NEW CANAAN, Conn. – The daughter of New Canaan High School football coach Lou Marinelli was critically injured in a car accident on the Merritt Parkway, Connecticut State Police said.

Anna Marinelli, 29, of Summit Ridge Road, was traveling north on the Merritt near Exit 36 at about 12:43 a.m. Sunday when, for an unknown reason, the Mini Cooper she was driving drifted to the right, went onto a grassy shoulder and struck a tree, state police said.

Marinelli suffered a “significant” leg injury and was transported by ambulance to Norwalk Hospital, police said. She was moved Sunday to Yale-New Haven Hospital and was in critical condition Wednesday in the intensive care unit there, a hospital spokesman said.

According to the state police report, the airbag in the vehicle was deployed. Police said no charges have been filed and the wreck was under investigation.
