According to the study, average peak connection speeds in Connecticut during the third quarter of 2014 were faster than in every other state with the exception of Delaware. Internet speeds in Connecticut surpassed that of entire countries surveyed with the exception of Hong Kong, Singapore and South Korea.

“This is yet another measure in which Connecticut doesn’t just compete with our fellow states when it comes to internet speed—it blows away the competition,” said state Sen. Bob Duff, who chaired the Energy & Technology Committee through December. “This is a home run for Connecticut, and the kind of news that both individuals and small businesses can really get excited about.”

The report featured in the Washington Post measures average peak Internet speed in Megabits per second. Connecticut’s average peak internet speed of 71 Mbps was second only to Delaware’s 75.7 Mbps, according to the report.

The new Chair of the Energy & Technology Committee, Sen. Paul Doyle, also praised Connecticut’s third quarter rise in Internet connection.

“If you look at the study, you’ll see that Connecticut’s peak speeds rose by 25 percent, the sharpest rise of any state,” said Doyle, a Democrat. “As the incoming chair of the Energy & Technology Committee I’m looking forward to maintaining our status as a global leader in Internet speeds, and continuing to ensure that we make Connecticut an attractive place to do business.”
