FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. – Wind and flood advisories have been extended in Fairfield County by the National Weather Service.

A strong wind advisory has been extended until 6 a.m. Wednesday with winds of 20 to 30 mph and gusts of up to 55 mph.

The highest potential for strong winds was from 10 p.m. to midnight Tuesday and will likely be enhanced by heavy showers and thunderstorms, the weather service said.

A flash flood warning was also issued for the county and is expected to last through 11:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Coastal towns in Fairfield County were also under a coastal flood advisory through 3 a.m. Wednesday. Flooding of 1 to 2 feet above normal was expected at high tide, which will occur at about 1:50 a.m.

Residents were asked to be cautious when driving, particularly through areas prone to flooding. Heavy flooding closed Interstate 95 in Greenwich and Norwalk late Tuesday.
