John Durham, the United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut announced this week that Norwalk resident Stephen Mazzo, 34, has been sentenced to 41 months in prison after pleading guilty to one count of possession with intent to distribute cocaine and one count of possession of firearms and ammunition by a convicted felon in February.

According to court documents and statements made in court, the DEA’s Bridgeport High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area Task Force received information that Mazzo was trafficking cocaine in Stamford, leading to an investigation. On May 31 last year, investigators surveilling Mazzo saw him leave a Norwalk hotel with a plastic shopping bag he was not previously holding.

Mazzo was subsequently stopped while driving on Route 15 in Stamford by police, and a search of the vehicle found more than 400 grams of cocaine inside the shopping bag, leading to his arrest.

Investigators went to the hotel where Mazzo got the cocaine and determined he met with Dominick Pacifico, who was in possession of nearly 1,000 grams of cocaine separated in multiple packages for distribution and $34,525 in cash.

Further investigation at Mazzo’s home found that the previously convicted felon was illegally in possession of a semiautomatic pistol, multi-caliber rifle, a 12-gauge shotgun and shotgun shells, all of which he was prohibited from possession due to the conviction.

Mazzo pleaded guilty to the charges on Feb 15. He remains released on a $200,000 bond and is due to report to prison on June 21. Pacifico pleaded guilty to one count of possession with intent to distribute more than 500 grams of cocaine and was sentenced to 60 months imprisonment in March.
