With his passing in 1981 the Armonk Chamber of Commerce and a host of local agencies decided to officially nickname the town “The Home of Frosty the Snowman”, and in 2009 they organized the inaugural Frosty Parade down Main Street.
Since then the parade has grown in size and popularity to the point where last night a few thousand people lined the center of town, which leads to the “Village Square” -- the same “Village Square” mentioned in the song’s lyrics.
The parade was led by the Dixie Dandies Marching Band followed by a wonderfully decorated and lit float filled with local children throwing armloads of candy to the cheering crowds.
This group of Frosty’s helpers included Carl Herzner, Brody McGuinn, Christian & Luke Ursillo, and Siara, Ceasar & Sydney Palotta. Other parade participants were the Tappan Zee Bridgeman Marching Band, Byram Hills Cheerleaders and Dance Teams, Finalists of the Miss Hudson Valley Teen Contest, and about three dozen more cheerful and chilly organizations.
A Holiday Lighting Ceremony at the Gazebo in the park followed the parade, with musical entertainment by the Westchester Chordsmen.
