GREENWICH, Conn. — A Greenwich man charged with possession of hundreds of images of child pornography has resigned from his position on the town's Representative Town Meeting board, according to News 12.

Christopher N. Sandys, 46, was arrested last Thursday and charged with one count of child pornography after officers discovered 750 images of child pornography on his computer, police said.

The U.S. Air Force Academy graduate, who strongly supported Donald Trump in his presidential run, was a conservative member of Greenwich's Representative Town Meeting, He posted $100,000 bond after appearing in court Friday and was released. He returns to court Jan. 19.

During his arrest, two Greenwich police officers pointed their rifles at Sandys as he tried to run down a hallway of his home after the officers had burst into his residence with a search warrant looking for child pornography, according to the search warrant.

Sandys then complied with requests from the officers to stop and lie down on the floor of his LeGrande Avenue residence Thursday morning, the warrant said.

After officers seized Sandys's three handguns and shotgun, police said. After they determined the area was safe for officers, they took the handcuffs off Sandys, police said.

He was allowed to dress, use the bathroom, drink two glasses of water and smoke half a cigarette, according to the police document.

When officers asked Sandys whether he wanted to speak with them about the allegations against him, he said, "he did not want to be rude" but said he would  exercise his right to remain silent, police said.

On his Facebook page and Twitter account both of which are no longer public, Sandys expressed his support of Trump and ridiculed liberal figures such as broadcaster Keith Olberman. He also had posted a Youtube video when he spoke against plans for the New Lebanon School during an RTM meeting.

According to the warrant, the investigation into Sandys began Aug. 31 when a state investigator accessed a "peer to peer" network where files are traded among individuals. The investigator downloaded 1,337 of suspected child pornography between Aug. 31 and Sept. 3 from the computer belonging to what they eventually found to be Sandys' IP address, police said.

Three of the images involved girls who were no more than 7 years old and possibly as young as 2 performing sex acts on men, according to police.

He is divorced and has a teenage child, according to the police information.

His phone number was not in service during attempts to reach him, and he did not respond to an email.

A message to Belpointe Asset Management where Sandys worked as a portfolio manger was not returned. Articles he had written as a Belpointe employee and his biography that was on Belpointe's site were available Thursday, but they had all been removed on Friday.
