The Norwalk Parking Authority unveiled the changes last month with Mayor Harry Rilling, other city officials, representatives of the Norwalk business community and the Norwalk Arts Commission. The parking garage is located at 3 Burnell Blvd.

The light installation gives a sense of movement with its creatively placed LED lighting that illuminate the exterior wall while drawing light from the garage interior LED lights, the parking authority said.

“The illuminated lights serve a number of purposes,” said Parking Authority Chairman Dick Brescia. “They refresh the Yankee Doodle Garage facade in a visually appealing way, while providing security and way-finding functions. We expect it to become an centerpiece to the growing Wall Street district.”

The Yankee Doodle Garage also saw a number of upgrades on the inside to improve security, customer service and aesthetics.

New state-of-the-art elevators, electric security door locks that are tied to the alarm system, as well as additional security cameras were installed.

In addition, the elevator lobby doors were replaced, providing more light and a safer environment.

Throughout the garage, older fluorescent lighting was replaced with LED lighting, which provides longer lasting and brighter light.

To better serve the public, a customer service office was opened and a district-wide, roving security patrol was put in place Thursday through Saturday nights.
