Last Chance To Apply For Affordable Housing Training In New Canaan Monday

FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- The Connecticut Affordable Housing Coalition is seeking applications through Monday.

Fairfield irst Selectman Mike Tetreau recently announced that the Connecticut Housing Coalition, The Connecticut Department of Housing, Citi Community Development and the Melville Charitable Trust are accepting applications for the Connecticut Affordable Housing Academy, according to a news release.

“I encourage affordable housing owners, developers and local housing sponsors to learn more about this unique housing-opportunity training," said Tetreau in the release. "It is important for a diverse community like Fairfield to be able to provide high quality yet affordable housing options for our residents.”

Applications are due to the Connecticut Housing Coalition by Monday, according to the release.

"The Connecticut Affordable Housing Academy will provide housing development teams the opportunity to receive hands on training, technical assistance and pre-development funding for their housing projects," according to the Connecticut Housing Coalition. "Teams will develop projects created in response to their community’s unique set of challenges, assets and opportunities. The Academy will focus on the development of local partnerships needed to create and manage high quality, resident-focused housing.

"The Academy offers training seminars facilitated by expert consultants working in the field of Housing and Community Development, including financial structuring and sustainability, partnership development and community engagement. Sessions will be highly interactive and specific to participants’ projects.

"The Academy will provide benefits such as a housing plan and proposal that is feasible, ready and able to be funded; a project preview and feedback from potential funders; the ability to access scarce early-stage pre-development funds; tools to ensure a strong, effective development team; and project-specific technical assistance and troubleshooting from a team of content experts. Priority will be given to projects that integrate housing into the larger community and/or are tied to other local community revitalization efforts.”

Those with questions are asked to contact Betsy Crum, executive director of the Connecticut Housing Coalition, at 860-563-2943, Ext. 12, or

To obtain an application and learn more about the Academy, residents are asked to visit the Connecticut Housing website .
