NEW CANAAN, Conn. -- The New Canann Town Council failed to offer support to backers of The Hub during a recent meeting, at which the group was looking for the town to donate $10,000 toward its effort to expand the services offered at the center, according to the New Canaan Advertiser.
The Hub, a nonprofit organization that owns the former Outback Teen Center, is working to bring a variety of services to the community, reported the New Canaan Advertiser. Currently, the group has one tenant, Abilis, that provides services to persons with developmental disabilities, said the New Canaan Advertiser. The group also planned on offering an informational seminar by Yale New Haven Hospital twice a month, and general wellness programs for the public, said the New Canaan Advertiser.
During the meeting, only five of the 11 council members seemed to support the effort, with most saying the building should be used for what it was originally intended, as a spot for children and teens, according to the New Canaan Advertiser. Council members also said bringing more health programs to town would duplicate what already is offered, reported the New Canaan Advertiser.
