New Canaan Brothers To Serve As Memorial Day Parade Grand Marshals

NEW CANAAN, Conn. — New Canaan brothers and veterans Forrest and Russell Kimes III will serve as this year’s grand marshals for the Memorial Day Parade.

Capt. Forrest Kimes is a member of the 103rd Air Control Squadron, Connecticut Air National Guard, Orange Air National Guard Station and the U.S. Air Force, and will serve as one of the grand marshals in New Canaan's Memorial Day Parade.

Russell Kimes III served in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve from 2000 to 2008. During that time he was deployed to Iraq in 2003 as a battalion intelligence noncommissioned officer and served as a combat marksmanship instructor and member of the U.S. Marine Corps Pistol Team, a news release said.

He is currently a vice president in the human resource division at Morgan Stanley in New York and an active 15-year member and former assistant chief of the New Canaan Fire Company #1, the release said. He also plays goalie in a recreational hockey league in Ridgefield.

Capt. Forrest Kimes is a member of the 103rd Air Control Squadron, Connecticut Air National Guard, Orange Air National Guard Station and the U.S. Air Force, and in 2003 was deployed to Afghanistan in Operation Enduring Freedom, the release said. He has also served additional tours in Balad Air Base, Iraq, the Arabian Gulf, and across the U.S. and is an air battle manager, air weapons officer and an air surveillance officer, the release said.

This year’s guest speaker will be John McLane, an operating executive and adviser with financial services, publishing, media and information content firms, a release said. He was the founding president of LEXIS & NEXIS and president of the service arm of Citicorp’s Global Insurance Division, the release said.

McLane received his bachelor’s and master’s degree from Michigan State University, where he competed in national championships in soccer and wrestling, and is a veteran of the U.S. Army, where he was a five-time decorated commander with the First Cavalry Division in Vietnam, the release said. He lives in New Canaan with his wife, raised three children here and is active in the church and community.

The Memorial Day Parade will take place Monday, May 27.
