New Canaan Loses Power; Elm Street Evacuated

Connecticut Light and Power was on the scene in New Canaan Wednesday afternoon working to restore power.

Update, 4:30 p.m. - The New Canaan YMCA has power and is open to all members of the community as a cooling center.

NEW CANAAN, Conn.  – Elm Street has been evacuated and about half of New Canaan is without power on Wednesday afternoon. Connecticut Light and Power crews are investigating a possible problem at a substation.

According to CL&P’s latest outage map, nearly 4,400 customers in New Canaan are without power as of 2:30 p.m. That’s about 52 percent of the town’s power customers.

New Canaan officials have activated the town’s emergency operations center.
