NEW CANAAN, Conn. A former New Canaan News reporter was fired last week after he reportedly included fabricated quotes and sources in his stories.
Paresh Jha, who worked for the weekly Hearst newspaper for nearly two years, was dismissed from his job, according to a story published on the News website last Friday. According to the report, editors found 25 stories that contained quotes from nonexistent sources. The News said Jha admitted to fabricating names and quotes in stories when confronted.
David McCumber, editorial director of Hearst Connecticut Media Group, said in the report that every story Jha wrote in his 22 months with the News is being fact-checked. McCumber also apologized to readers.
