NEW CANAAN, Conn. Gary Totaro of New Canaan can see himself behind the wheel of a Chevrolet Camaro Z28. The classic American muscle car has been in his dreams for years.
Im a big car guy, said Totaro, 56.
Chances are Totaro would be able to buy any car his heart desires if he hits the lucky numbers in Friday nights $640 million Mega Millions jackpot drawing.
The counter at the Keans Korner Mobil Station on South Avenue was busy all day Friday as customers living and working in New Canaan gave up a few bucks in the hopes of becoming multimillionaires. Totaro had four tickets in hand. He said he never played lottery games until last week, when the jackpot rose to more than $300 million.
In addition to buying his dream car and restoring a few others, Totaro said he would like to buy land in Florida and Texas and move his parents to a condo in the Sunshine State. Id do a lot of traveling, too, he said, including taking his parents to Italy.
Timothy Curt of New Canaan bought just one ticket at the gas station. Curt said its nice to get a ticket and just play along. The whole idea of the lottery is mainly dreaming about what youd do with the money, but not actually winning it, he said.
With a ticket in hand, Curt and his wife Dona Bissonnette can look at the drawing with just a bit more interest than if you had not (played). But if he were to win, Curt said he could think of some things he would do aside from buying a Porsche.
Renee Pisarz of Scarsdale, N.Y., said she would use the winnings to assist people in pain and in need all over the world. Its always for the best, she said. I want to heal people and just help out.
