New Canaan Votes To Place Waveny On Historic Places Register

NEW CANAAN, Conn. -- The New Canaan Town Council voted in favor of requesting that the Waveny House and surrounding property be placed on the National Register of Historic Places on Wednesday, Dec. 17, according to the New Canaanite.

First Selectman Rob Mallozzi cast a tie-breaking vote with the council deadlocked at 6-6, the New Canaanite said. 

The decision to apply for the National Register came after several meetings, stayed votes and public hearings on the matter. Those in favor of the listing pointed to additional federal funding, while those opposed claimed the town may lose stewardship of the home, the New Canaanite said.
