New Canaan's Population Grows 2.31% Since 2010

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- Many Connecticut residents say they want to leave the state -- but it appears to be the opposite in Fairfield County, which had the highest population growth rate in the state from 2010 through 2013, according to U.S. Census data published in the Hartford Courant.

Fairfield County is one of just two counties in Conn. where the population showed any significant growth from 2010-2013.

Fairfield County and Hartford County were the only counties in the state that saw significant population growth in that time span, but Fairfield County had the highest growth, by far.

Fairfield County's population increased by 23,075 people from 2010 to 2013, while Hartford County increased by 4,255. The only other county that saw an increase was New London County, which increased by only 95 people.

Litchfield County, on the other hand, saw an exodus over that span, with just over 3,000 people moving away from the northwestern corner of the state.

During that time, Stamford gained more than 3,800 residents and became the third-largest city in Connecticut, behind Bridgeport and New Haven and surpassing Hartford.
