Newtown Lawsuit Against Gunmaker Goes To Bridgeport Court

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. -- As the most recent mass shooting in Orlando still dominates the news, a lawsuit over the use of a similar gun in the 2012 massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown takes center stage Monday at Bridgeport Superior Court, according to the Hartford Courant.

A memorial at the Sandy Hook School sign is a reminder of the shooting massacre of 26 people at the Newtown school. Lawyers for Remington Arms are trying to get a judge to dismiss a lawsuit against the gun manufacturer, the Hartford Courant reported.

Lawyers for Remington Arms are trying to get a judge to dismiss the lawsuit against the company brought by several families of the 26 people killed at Sandy Hook. Judge Barbara Bellis is assigned to hear the arguments Monday, the Hartford Courant reported.

The lawsuit asserts that the military-style rifle was not meant for civilians while lawyers for the company say federal law protects them from lawsuits if their guns are used in a crime, according to the Hartford Courant. The judge rejected a similar effort to dismiss the lawsuit earlier this year, the Hartford Courant reports.
