Non-Resident Beach Parkers Face Towing in Norwalk

NORWALK, Conn. — There will be new signs near Calf Pasture Beach next weekend – non-residents can't park for free. And guess what? Cars without resident stickers parked near the beach might be towed.

Mayor Richard Moccia is initiating the change in response to resident complaints, according to a statement from his office. The signs posted Saturday at Taylor Farm and Marvin Elementary School will indicate that there is no beach access parking for non-residents.

Non-residents parking in those areas will be ticketed and towed at their expense. Only residents can park in these areas and must display the proper pass.

Non-residents will also be barred from entering Shady Beach to unload supplies. They must unload outside the gate and park in the Taylor Farm grass area. And they must pay at the main gate before entering Taylor Farm.

Tow-away zones will also be posted on Canfield Avenue adjacent to Canfield Road and Shorehaven Country Club.

The action is being taken jointly by the Department of Parks and Recreation and the Norwalk Police Department. "Calf Pasture and Shady Beach have become a destination," Moccia said. "We have implemented these changes to ensure the safety of all and continued convenience for non-residents and city residents."
