Pit Bull Attack on Man, 81, Probed in New Canaan

NEW CANAAN, Conn. — An incident in which an 81-year-old New Canaan man was bitten by a pit bull in Waveny Park is under investigation by New Canaan Police.

Police said the man was walking on the trails in the park at about 3 p.m. April 24 when a Stamford woman was walking a dog on a leash. The dog jumped up and bit the man on his hip, police said. Someone wrote down the license plate of the woman’s vehicle as she left the park.

Police visited her home and found three or four other dogs there, but none fit the description of the animal that bit the man. They said all the animals were up to date with their vaccinations. Police said the man received medical attention from a physician.

Sgt. Carol Ogrinc said police are not sure if the dog belonged to someone else or if the woman just did not produce it.
