A town resident reported a theft at about 12:50 p.m. last Friday from her car, which was parked in the driveway at the entrance to Saxe Middle School. Police said someone entered the car and stole a purse worth $1,000, a wallet worth $800 and about $500 in cash. Police said they were reviewing surveillance videotapes.

Dorian Smith, 18, of Roanoke, Va., was charged Sept. 28 with possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia after a resident of Hillcrest Drive reported seeing a man driving east on Oak Street wearing a ski mask. Police pulled Smith's vehicle over and during a permitted search found marijuana and a plastic bong. Smith was held on $500 bond and appeared Sept. 29 in Norwalk Superior Court.
A South Avenue resident reported Sept. 28 that someone had illegally applied for a credit card in his name through Wells Fargo Bank and received two debit cards from an account opened under his name at Bank of America. Police said nine other fraudulent accounts were pending at Wachovia Bank. All of the man's accounts were frozen as police investigated.
Police were investigating a car break-in after a Park Street resident said someone entered his car, which was parked in his garage, on the morning of Sept. 29. Police said the glove compartment and the center console were searched, and a GPS unit worth $200 was stolen. Police said the car's doors were unlocked.
Police were investigating the fraudulent use of checks after a pair of checks was cashed last Thursday under the name of a local business with a TD Bank account. One check was worth nearly $4,700. The other was worth about $4,300.
A 17-year-old was charged last Friday with illegal possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of marijuana. Police said the boy was found in his vehicle on Charles Place after a resident reported he had been there for about two hours. Police found the boy with red, glazed eyes and detected a smell of marijuana in the vehicle. In searching the car, police found a grinder that appeared to contain marijuana and a black electric vaporizing box. He was released to appear in juvenile court Oct. 13.
