Power Goes Out For Hundreds In New Canaan On Friday

NEW CANAAN, Conn. – Hundreds of New Canaan homes lost power Friday afternoon, and Connecticut Light & Power hopes crews can restore service by 9 p.m.

A tree fell on power lines at about 4:30 p.m., disrupting power for nearly 1,200 of the utility’s customers in town, CL&P spokesman Frank Poirot said Friday. Power was restored for most of those customers, he said.

But as of 7:30 p.m., 483 CL&P customers in New Canaan were still in the dark. That total is 5 percent of the utility's New Canaan customers.

The tree may have been leaning after a heavy wind and rainstorm overnight Wednesday, which felled trees and caused outages all over the state, Poirot said.
